The Model of Professional Ethics based on the Job Self-Efficacy and Work Engagement with the Mediation of Quality of Work Life in Nurses

Abstract

Objective: Professional ethics represents a set of business principles and standards that can create a competitive advantage for the organization. Therefore, the aim of this study was to design a model of professional ethics based on the job self-efficacy and work engagement with the mediation of quality of work life in nurses.   Methodology: This study in terms of purpose was applied and in terms of implementation method was descriptive-analytical from type of correlation. The current research population was all the nurses working in the hospitals of Ahvaz city in 2023 year, which 320 nurses were selected as a sample by multi-stage cluster sampling method. The research tools were include questionnaires of professional ethics (Cadozier, 2002), job self-efficacy (Riggs and Knight, 1994), work engagement (Salanova & Schaufeli, 2008) and quality of work life (Walton, 1973). The data of this study were analyzed by structural equation modeling in SPSS software version 24.   Findings: The results of this study indicated that the model of job self-efficacy and work engagement with the mediation of quality of work life in nurses had a good fit. Also, the findings showed that the direct effect of job self-efficacy on quality of work life, the direct effect of work engagement on quality of work life and professional ethics and the direct effect of quality of work life on professional ethics were positive and significant (P<0.05), but the direct effect of job self-efficacy on professional ethics was not significant (P>0.05). In addition, the indirect effect of job self-efficacy and work engagement with the mediation of quality of work life on professional ethics was significant (P<0.01).   Conclusion: According to the mentioned results, in order to improve the professional ethics of nurses it is possible to provide the basis for increasing their job self-efficacy, work engagement and quality of work life.
